Equine Internship Positions 2010

Cotts Equine Hospital is seeking two recent or new graduates for our 12 month internship programme, starting August and October 2010. The clinic is an RCVS-accredited Tier 3 Equine Hospital in South West Wales. Situated on the edge of a coastal National Park and area of outstanding natural beauty, the practice provides ambulatory services to Pembrokeshire, Carmarthenshire and south Ceredigion. It also provides a referral service for emergency surgery and intensive care, and all elective internal medicine, orthopaedic and surgical cases for a considerable portion of Mid-, West- and South-Wales. Cotts provides veterinary cover for nearby Ffos Las racecourse which adds to the already significant racehorse caseload.

Founded in 2005, the hospital facilities were opened by Professor Barrie Edwards in 2008; RCVS accreditation occurred in early 2010. The hospital currently employs 5 veterinary surgeons including 2 board-certified specialists, one in surgery and one in internal medicine, plus 2 interns employed on a 12 month contract. The Cotts internship is a very practical one, mixing hands-on training with clinic cases and first opinion cases. We also provide regular in-house training seminars and fund 5 days of external CPD. There is also scope within the internship programme to develop special interests further. The aim is that after 12 months our interns are equipped with the skills and experience required to work competently in first line equine practice, or pursue further specialist training.

We pride ourselves on being a friendly and close team. As a result, prospective applicants are encouraged to arrange to spend at least 2 days seeing practice with us in order to see first hand the intern’s work, the hospital, to meet staff and for both sides to be happy and satisfied.

Application process: Applicants should post or email a CV with photograph and letter of intent marked for the attention of Richard Coomer, email. enquiries@cottsequine.co.uk. Having done so they should arrange their dates, during which time they will be interviewed. Closing date for documentary application is March 31st 2010 and for visiting April 15th 2010. The internships are allocated after review of all suitable applicants.
