This case developed an unsightly chronic wound on the inside of the right hind pastern. Not only was it ugly, but because it was proud it kept being caught by the other foot, stopping it healing.
Problem was that after the diseased area was removed in surgery there wasn’t much spare skin to cover the hole. We had to plan how to deal with a lot of skin tension. This was managed by carrying out a z-plasty, a plastic surgery technique to reduce tension.
The wound healed well and is shown at 12 days (left) and 8 weeks (right), at which times the hair had grown back a lot. The final cosmetic outcome was reported to be perfect.
