Seeing practice - information for students
As a school student, spending time on work experience with real working vets can be very helpful in deciding if a veterinary career is something of interest. This experience also helps persuade prospective university admissions tutors that a candidate is serious. Cotts Farm is a solely equine practice and although school students are very welcome, they are well advised to concentrate their time in mixed practice. Work experience, or ‘seeing practice’, is also a vital part of the undergraduate veterinary curriculum veterinary students are required to spend 26 weeks doing this during their studies. Veterinary students may apply to see practice at any time, whilst secondary school students working towards their A-levels can arrange to see practice for up to 1 week providing they are 16 years of age or older. We prefer only one student to be here at a time, but under certain circumstances veterinary students may overlap with school students. The weeks are booked on a first come first served basis.
Students interested in seeing practice should contact Emma in the office or email: enquiries@cottsequine.co.uk. They should download the introductory sheet (PDF), print a copy, sign it and bring with them on their first day. Students under the age of 18 years should have their parent or guardian sign the form. An accommodation list (PDF) is also available for those that require it. Please note: there is no accommodation within walking distance of Cotts Farm, which is situated on a busy A-road. Prospective students should make suitable transport arrangements.
