4/8/10: Hospital status for Cotts Cotts Farm Equine Clinic Ltd became Cotts Farm Equine Hospital Ltd in mid February 2010 after inspectors from the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons (RCVS) found the practice fulfilled all requirements for hospital status. In doing so we became the only equine hospital in Wales.
The RCVS practice standards accreditation scheme provides 3 levels of veterinary practice. The most basic is core standards, the middle standard is general practice, and the hardest is hospital status. It should be noted that Royal College accreditation is very difficult and time consuming to obtain with strict requirements on staff expertise, equipment and facilities, plus full compliance with current employment, safety and insurance regulations, and (needless to say) vast amounts of paperwork. Clinical governance and audit are Royal College priorities. This means that Cotts has to prove, on an ongoing basis, that it uses the most up to date treatments and that our success rates are equivalent to those in any other UK equine hospital, like those in Newmarket and the southeast of England.
It has taken a very major team effort to achieve the standard; many practices have not even applied for core standards status, whilst we are delighted to have become the first accredited equine veterinary hospital in Wales, bar none. The practice standards are extremely strict so that our clients, near and far, can have complete faith in the veterinary care we provide.
