Are you passionate about horses, enjoy hands-on work and would love to be part of a busy equine veterinary hospital?

We have an exciting opportunity for a motivated and enthusiastic Equine Care Assistant to join our friendly team at Cotts Equine Hospital.

This is a varied, hands-on role, ideal for someone who enjoys working with horses and wants to gain valuable experience in an equine veterinary environment. No two days are quite the same, and you'll play an important part in helping our clinical team provide the best possible care for our patients.

About Cotts Equine Hospital

As the only RCVS-accredited equine hospital in Wales, Cotts Equine Hospital provides both first-opinion and referral veterinary care, treating a wide variety of medical, surgical and emergency cases.

Our hospital in Cowbridge is equipped with surgical theatres, inpatient and intensive care facilities, alongside advanced diagnostic equipment including CT, radiography, ultrasonography and endoscopy.

You'll be working alongside an experienced team of veterinary surgeons, registered veterinary nurses and interns, gaining an insight into the day-to-day running of a busy equine hospital.

What Will the Role Involve?

As an Equine Care Assistant, you'll be an important part of our hospital team, helping to ensure our patients are comfortable, well cared for and that the hospital runs smoothly.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Providing daily care for hospitalised horses, including feeding, watering, grooming and mucking out.

  • Handling and holding horses for veterinary examinations, treatments and procedures.

  • Assisting the veterinary and nursing teams with diagnostic procedures, including X-rays.

  • Helping with stock control, organising supplies and ensuring clinical areas are well stocked.

  • Maintaining high standards of cleanliness, hygiene and biosecurity throughout the hospital.

  • Supporting the wider clinical team with a variety of practical tasks.

Who Are We Looking For?

We're looking for someone who is enthusiastic, dependable and enjoys being part of a team.

You'll ideally have:

  • Confidence and experience in handling a wide range of horses.

  • A genuine passion for equine care and welfare.

  • A proactive attitude and willingness to get stuck in.

  • Good communication and organisational skills.

  • The ability to work efficiently in a busy environment.

  • A willingness to learn and develop new skills.

Previous experience in an equine veterinary setting would be an advantage, but is not essential. We're more interested in finding someone with the right attitude, a strong work ethic and a genuine enthusiasm for working with horses.

Working Hours

Monday to Friday | 8:00am – 5:00pm

40 hours per week, with a one-hour unpaid lunch break each day.

Based at Cotts Equine Hospital, Cowbridge.

Why Join Us?

This is a great opportunity to become part of a welcoming and supportive team, working in a well-equipped equine hospital with an interesting and varied caseload.

Whether you're looking to build on your existing equine experience or explore a future career in veterinary nursing, this role offers the chance to develop practical skills and gain valuable experience working alongside veterinary professionals.
